Milan, 28 May, 2014<\/strong> – Digital Magics<\/strong>, the certified incubator of innovative digital startups listed on the Italian Stock Exchange’s AIM Italia market (symbol: DM), important Italian entrepreneurs and investors have signed up\u00c2\u00a0to<\/strong> an increase in capital\u00c2\u00a0of \u00e2\u201a\u00ac1 million <\/strong>in Premium Store<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Premium Store is the innovative startup chosen exclusively by the Consorzio Edicola Italiana\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u201c \u00c2\u00a0founded by Caltagirone Editore<\/strong>, Gruppo<\/strong> 24 ORE<\/strong>, Gruppo Editoriale L’Espresso<\/strong>, La Stampa<\/strong>, Mondadori<\/strong> and RCS MediaGroup<\/strong> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c for the development and business management of EDICOLA ITALIANA<\/strong>: the Italian publishers’\u00c2\u00a0platform for the sale of digital newspapers and magazines.<\/p>\n

In addition to the incubator<\/strong>, that has invested\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u201a\u00ac200,000<\/strong> in Premium Store and now holds 63.5% of the share capital <\/strong>the investors in the Digital Magics Angel Network<\/em> who have taken part in\u00c2\u00a0this round of funding are DBInformation<\/strong>, a company operating in the area of\u00c2\u00a0business publishing and BtoB services of Roberto Briglia<\/strong> and Gianni Vallardi, Johan Bode <\/strong>Financial Manager and Partner at KPMG Advisory, Ivan Boni<\/strong>, Maria Sabino Frassa<\/strong>, Antonino Pisa <\/strong>CFO and Director of BravoSolution, Andrea Rangone<\/strong> Professor of Digital Business at Politecnico di Milano, Lodovico Rosnati <\/strong>former Director of the Equity Market Division of the\u00c2\u00a0Italian Stock Exchange. Also taking part is the\u00c2\u00a0business angel network Custodi di Successo \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Milano<\/strong>, represented by its senior members Matteo Paganin<\/strong> and Marco Pastore<\/strong>. The partners of the new firm also include Applix<\/strong>, an Italian\u00c2\u00a0company headed up by Claudio Somazzi <\/strong>and Marco Cirilli<\/strong> and that has been market\u00c2\u00a0leader in the world of publishing services with the Viewerplus <\/strong>product.<\/p>\n

Digital Magics Angel Network<\/em><\/strong> gathers more than\u00c2\u00a0100 industrial, private and financial operators, that\u00c2\u00a0collaborate with Digital Magics in the\u00c2\u00a0selection, mentorship and funding of innovative startups.<\/p>\n

Following this operation,\u00c2\u00a0Premium Store will boost its technology platform<\/strong> with a responsive <\/em>structure for selling publishing products\u00c2\u00a0on Tablets, PCs and smartphones. EDICOLA ITALIANA \u00e2\u20ac\u201c which will be\u00c2\u00a0online from the summer of 2014 at\u00c2\u00a0www.edicolaitaliana.it \u00e2\u20ac\u201c will make it possible to buy digital editions of\u00c2\u00a0newspapers, magazines and e-books in total safety and with a few simple\u00c2\u00a0clicks. The\u00c2\u00a0method of online buying<\/strong> will give access to EDICOLA ITALIANA’s archives\u00c2\u00a0and will enable with a unique password to buy and to read one’s favourite papers and\u00c2\u00a0magazines.<\/p>\n

Users can search for keywords in full text<\/em> mode in all the newspapers and magazines present: it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a unique feature of EDICOLA ITALIANA<\/strong>. The startup incubated by Digital Magics has incorporated the publishers’ systems, allowing users\u00c2\u00a0to log on automatically to the proprietors’ apps\u00c2\u00a0that already exist with the same credentials as\u00c2\u00a0EDICOLA ITALIANA. It also offers an intuitive web browser<\/strong> in HTML5 format, for publishers who do not yet have a digital version of their published products.<\/p>\n

Premium Store received one of the highest scores in the Start 2013 project <\/strong>organised by the Lombardy Region<\/strong> and the System of the Chambers of Commerce of Lombardy<\/strong>, which supports the dissemination of entrepreneurial culture, the creation of new enterprises and self-employed ventures, organising loans and non-refundable contributions.<\/p>\n

THE ITALIAN MARKET FOR THE SALE OF DIGITAL PUBLISHING: +40% IN 2017 <\/strong><\/p>\n

According to forecasts published in\u00c2\u00a0the\u00c2\u00a0PWC Media and Entertainment Outlook 2013-2017, revenues from sales of digital editions of publications in Italy will grow by around 40% in 2017, reaching \u00e2\u201a\u00ac243 million for\u00c2\u00a0online purchases of e-books, \u00e2\u201a\u00ac115 million for\u00c2\u00a0magazines and \u00e2\u201a\u00ac86 million for newspapers.<\/p>\n

In Italy in 2013,\u00c2\u00a0sales of digital newspaper subscriptions rose by\u00c2\u00a0over 80% compared to 2012 (in December 2013 they\u00c2\u00a0were 365,384). When it comes to monthly and weekly publications, November 2013 saw the purchase of\u00c2\u00a0approximately 486,000 digital magazines[1]<\/a> with excellent growth forecasts for the end of 2014.<\/p>\n

For what\u00c2\u00a0Italian book market concern, the Report on the State of Publishing in Italy in 2013 from the\u00c2\u00a0AIE (Italian Publishers Association) reveals a figure for 2012\u00c2\u00a0of\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u201a\u00ac3.1 billion\u00c2\u00a0(paper and digital). Revenues from the sale of e-books were \u00e2\u201a\u00ac46 million\u00c2\u00a0a figure that corresponds\u00c2\u00a0to 1. 5% of the market (+0.6% compared to 2011, average price of \u00e2\u201a\u00ac11). The forecasts regarding the\u00c2\u00a0penetration of the sale of e-books onto the entire market for the next two years are that they will\u00c2\u00a0double each year, reaching \u00e2\u201a\u00ac167 million in 2014 (6% of the market)[2]<\/a>.<\/p>\n
